P1 Orientation & Big Sister Programme 2026
P1 Orientation & Big Sister Programme 2026
2 Jan 2026
2 January 2026 was the first day of school for our Primary 1 students. They arrived bright and early with their parents for the P1 Orientation. First, there was a detailed briefing for the parents on the school curriculum so that they would know what to expect and not be overly anxious.
Parents were relieved to know that there would be no exams in P1 and P2 and qualitative descriptors would be used to help them monitor the progress of their children. Thy were also assured that the school was interested in the holistic development of the students, particularly their character development from a young age.
This was followed by a class session with the individual Form Teachers, which was an opportunity for parents to understand the daily routines and expectations of the teachers, as well as to clarify any doubts they had. This warm informal setting also gave parents a chance to connect with other parents in the same class. Finally, the parents were given a tour of the school’s arrival and dismissal points to familiarize themselves with the traffic flow and safety measures in place.
In the meantime, the P1 students were getting to know their classmates through small group activities and games facilitated by the teachers. They soon warmed up to one another and began making friends. They also enjoyed their first recess in the canteen and some even knew how to buy food and drinks from the stalls. Later, the students were brought for a guided tour to identify key locations in the school.
As the orientation session ended, the students and parents left with high spirits, grateful to be part of the St. Margaret’s family and excited to start the new year.
