National Day 2021
Our school celebrated National Day on 6 August 2021 Instead of the usual school uniform, students got to have some fun by donning one of our national colours, red! Many teachers also came to school in red and white too. The day started with the formal observance ceremony. All students and teachers observed the march-in of the national flag, carried by two students from Girls’ Brigade and two students from Brownies, and the flag-raising ceremony as they were broadcast virtually in the classrooms through Zoom. Mrs Ko, our Principal, also delivered the National Day message. Right after that, all students and teachers took a walk down memory lane and were reminded of the contributions of our key leaders and pioneer generation as well as the challenges we have faced as a nation over the years.
The celebration was followed by classroom activities centred on the 2021 NDP theme, Together, Our Singapore Spirit. Students learned more about the NDP 2021 theme, logo and key beliefs. Thereafter, students participated in a range of fun and engaging activities like a quiz, singalong, dance, mask design and National Day bingo game. Our school’s harmonica ensemble also put up a wonderful virtual performance. They played an all-time favourite, Count On Me, Singapore.
Unlike previous years, the Primary 5 students this year could not go to the floating platform to watch the NDP rehearsal. Nonetheless, they received their National Day Pack 2021 in their classrooms. The eco-friendly bag design is inspired by our Singapore Hawker Culture. On top of that, each National Day Pack also came with a foldable fan. There are 21 different designs. The artwork printed on the fans are designed by the artists with disability and they give the public a chance to see the unique perspective of the artists with disability.
After the celebrations, every student received a national day gift. It was a very useful tote bag with iconic pictures of Singapore printed in green on the bags. The teachers also received a bag each! Even though we could not gather in the school hall to celebrate this special occasion together, everyone in school had a great time celebrating our nation’s birthday and rejoicing over the challenges we have overcome together with our Singapore spirit.
